Back to News & ArticlesBacking the next generation of St Vincent’s nurses
Bank First is proud to support the incredible nurses at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Melbourne.
Meet our inspiring 2024 recipients: Joseph Mathew, Jo-Anne Perry and Tenika Brown. All three have already made a remarkable impact on the lives of their patients and communities.
Whether it's juggling other commitments whilst studying or looking ahead to specialisation, scholarships like ours open doors for nurses and allied health professionals.
Joseph
Joseph comes from a proud family of nurses who share a common goal – making a real difference through their work.
For Joseph, his nursing placement gave him the confidence he needed to know that he had made the right decision.
Looking ahead, Joseph is keen to expand his skills with further study in Peri-operative and Peri-Anaesthetics.
'I believe that the award I have received will help me in my journey of learning and gaining more knowledge so that I can continue to provide excellent care to patients.'
Jo-Anne
At St Vincent's, Jo-Anne supports families through their birthing and post-natal journeys.
After completing her Midwifery graduate year in 2023, she's now studying to become a lactation consultant.
'I love being a midwife. I tell my kids, ‘I’m off to make someone else a mummy’ – and that’s what I cherish most – helping others become mums".
'The scholarship has been such a big help. It allows me to continue my passion and continue to help mums in their journeys.’
Tenika
For Tenika, working as a nurse at St Vincent's 'feels like home'. Tenika loves helping people and making a difference. Now, Tenika can continue with her studies to transition from an enrolled to a registered nurse.
‘It allows me to help more people. If it wasn’t for the scholarship, I really don’t know how I’d manage placement.'
'I am so excited with where my future is headed within St Vincent’s.’
For Joseph, Jo-Anne, and Tenika, a passion for helping others isn’t the only thing they have in common. All three spoke about the challenge of balancing the demands of a career in healthcare with the financial squeeze of life, family and further study.
“As a bank for nurses and teachers, our profits go back into supporting those who care for others, and their communities,” said Adrian Wilson, Head of Community Partnerships at Bank First.
"At Bank First, we're proud to continue our legacy of over 50 years of giving back with our scholarship programs and financial wellbeing support.”
