Sometimes the smallest changes can have the biggest impact.
Instead of over committing to grand plans, a great way to improve your lifestyle is to make incremental changes, every day. Little changes are easier to keep up with and don’t feel too overwhelming, for example, choosing to take the stairs instead of the lift!
Here are some quick and easy tips for leading a healthier lifestyle that you can stick to:
Take a quick walk
Even if it is only a 10-minute walk a couple times a week – getting out of the house and enjoying the outdoors can be beneficial not only for your physical wellbeing but also for your mental wellbeing. You can walk by yourself to help de-stress or with a friend or family member to socialise at the same time.
Have news-free days
Over the past two years, a lot of the news has focused around Covid-19 and everything it entails, which can be overwhelming and sometimes discouraging. Introduce a news-free day once a month or once a week, in which you avoid news outlets and turn off your notifications for news.
Spend the day enjoying what is around you without getting too deep into what is happening in the wider world.
Drink an extra glass of water
Everyone knows there are health benefits in drinking more water, so this tip should come as no surprise. It may be a bit tedious to track exactly how much water you are drinking throughout the day. However, by introducing a small goal of just adding an extra glass daily can be very beneficial in keeping you hydrated and making sure you are keeping up your water intake.
Plan your snacks
Eating healthier is always a gradual change and won’t happen overnight. An easy change you can make today, is to plan and prepare your snacks in advance – so when 3pm hits you have a healthier option on hand.
You could try:
- Homemade kale chips
- Dark chocolate and almonds
- Hummus and veggies
- Greek yoghurt and berries
- Apple slices with peanut butter or almond butter
Do a brain teaser
Part of being healthier is also making sure that you are keeping mentally stimulated as well. Mental stimulation is crucial in keeping your brain active and functioning well. Whether it is a Soduko puzzle or crossword, introducing a daily brain teaser is a good way to increase mental stimulation. Plus, they’re fun!
Do something for you
It’s easy to get caught up doing so many things throughout the day, that you forget to take a moment that is entirely for yourself. Part of leading a healthier lifestyle is also making sure that you are listening to yourself and making sure you are keeping yourself happy and looked after.
That can mean setting time aside to do something you love – whether it’s getting outdoors, having a bath, indulging in a massage or watching your favourite TV show. Introducing ‘me-time’ is an important way to look after yourself and enjoy the things you love to do.
Remember, starting small can sometimes create the biggest changes. These tips are some fun and easy ways to enjoy leading a healthier lifestyle.
