While many of our Members have been Members of our Bank for decades, the life of a director is relatively short, with a maximum tenure of 12 years. This allows the Board to remain outward looking and bring in new ideas, while still having the opportunity to know our Members, our ethos and our corporate history.
My five year anniversary as a member of the Board will soon come around so like other recent director columns I am pleased to share a little of my professional and personal history with you.
Born and raised in rural Australia I travelled to Melbourne to complete my commerce studies at Melbourne University.
I am a chartered accountant and have worked in the financial services industry for over 30 years including time as an auditor with Deloitte (in Australia and in the USA) and as Chief Financial Officer of National Australia Financial Management (part of the NAB). During those 30 years I also had the opportunity to create and run a financial planning practice specialising in advice to self-managed superannuation funds.
I now sit on the Board of a number of financial services entities (including an industry superannuation fund and a listed investment company).
My family life includes one husband - an engineer, two daughters, one studying physiotherapy and the other medicine, and two extremely naughty cavoodles.
So, as you can imagine life is extremely busy.
