Nurses often see giving their all as part of the job, which is why it’s so important to celebrate their achievements and contributions. That’s exactly what the Alfred Health Nursing Scholarship does.
On International Nurses Day, Nurse Practitioner Catherine Vassili was named as the 2025 recipient of The Alfred Health Nursing Scholarship, in recognition of her outstanding care and leadership in haematology.
Proudly sponsored by Bank First, this scholarship will enable Catherine to undertake a self-designed study tour in the United States, where she’ll visit leading centres offering geriatric oncology assessment services.
'This is something that we’ve identified as a gap in Australia, and it’s a service that would be so beneficial for our patients. It will optimise their assessment, management and potential treatment options in the future.’
The power of nurse-led research is often transformative. After experiencing the latest innovations in her field firsthand, Catherine will return home to introduce these learnings to her team at The Alfred.
'This scholarship is an amazing opportunity that will allow me to experience and observe services overseas that I could only read and dream about. Nothing compares to seeing something face to face.'
'I’m so excited to really get into it and see what the future opportunities for our patients are.’
‘Nurses invest in themselves not for recognition, but because they know their growth means better care for others. That level of dedication is truly remarkable.'
We're proud to support emerging nurse leaders like Catherine to bring the latest in best-practice care back to her patients.
Who champions nurse-led research? Bank First, that's who.
