Collingwood College

The idea

Collingwood College is transforming local history into a powerful, student-led learning experience through the creation of a ‘Collingwood Museum’. Grade 5 and 6 students are exploring the suburb’s layered past, from pre-settlement landscapes to migration, industry and community life, while reflecting on their own identities and connections to place. Drawing from literature, museum visits and personal storytelling, students are stepping into roles as historians, designers and curators, creating artefacts, dioramas and interactive exhibits.

TIP impact

With support from Bank First's Teaching Initiatives Program, the project will expand into an exhibition and publication that captures student voice and local stories. Success will be reflected in deep student engagement, strong community attendance at the exhibition, and the creation of a lasting resource that preserves Collingwood's history through the eyes of its young people.
