Portland Secondary College

Our yarning circle space will be developed to honour Indigenous culture and historical links.

It will feature a large mural which will be designed and painted by Indigenous students and their families. Local artists will also work with us on this project.

The mural wall is the backdrop to what will be an amazing space when completed. It will include an Indigenous garden, seating and shade sails.

Our college has a 7% enrolment of Indigenous and/or Torres Strait students and we're committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful culture.

We want to not only acknowledge, but learn more about our history, from our First Nations people.

The project will have a significant impact on our college:

  • Our Indigenous yarning circle will have links to our Indigenous culture.

  • It will improve and strengthen connections with our Indigenous community of students and their families.

  • It will be a visible acknowledgement of the Gunditjmara peoples and their beliefs.

  • First Nations curriculum will be embedded into our college to the benefit of everyone.
