Frequently Asked Questions

  • What else do I need to know about PayID?

PayID doesn’t replace your BSB and account number completely as these details can be used for both standard transfers and Osko payments. PayID simply provides unprecedented ease, convenience and confidence.

If you’ve ever worried about sending money to the wrong account, PayID can help. Use a PayID with a service like Osko and the name of the person who owns that PayID is shown before you approve the payment. All you have to do is  confirm it’s the right person.

  • What PayID types can I create?
    • Mobile Phone Number
    • Email Address
    • ABN (Australian Business Number)*
    • Organisation ID*
*Restricted to business customers and organisations
  • Can I link my PayID to multiple accounts?

No, a PayID can only be linked to one account at any given time. However, multiple PayIDs can be linked to the same account.

  • Can I change the account that my PayID is linked to?

Yes, you can change the account your PayID is linked to on Internet Banking or our App by accessing the PayID options available in the ‘Transfers’ menu.

  • Can my PayID be used to withdrawal money from my account?

Your PayID cannot be used to withdraw money from your account. It can only be used to receive payments.

  • Is it safe to share my PayID?

When you give a person your PayID, they cannot use it to withdraw money from your account. When they use it in their own participating online or mobile banking to pay you, the only information they will see is your name. A PayID on its own cannot be used to create a false identity.

  • How safe is the New Payments Platform?

Participating financial institutions are taking a collaborative approach to ensure the highest security and fraud prevention measures are in place.

Fraud levels in Australia's payment system are amongst the lowest in the world, because of the actions and investments by all parties and their commitment to work collaboratively to reduce fraud. Australian financial institutions have very good fraud detection, screening and alert systems and these capabilities will apply to the New Payments Platform providing a safe and secure system for our Members.

All services offered via the New Payments Platform, including PayID and Osko must meet strict requirements. This includes procedures for fraud, liability rules for mistaken payments, misdirected payments and when using PayID.

We regularly monitor online transactions and investigate for any anomalies to ensure that your online security is not compromised.

  • Are payment services through the New Payments Platform available to everyone?

Under the New Payments Platform, Osko and PayID will be limited to SMS Security registered customers only.

Most accounts will be reachable on the platform however each financial institution will determine how and when services will be available. The ability to send and receive payments is at the discretion of each financial institution. It is however anticipated that more than 75% of Australian bank accounts will be able to receive payments immediately and this will increase over time.

  • What do I need to do if my mobile phone number or email address change?

You are required to close any PayIDs you no longer have the authority to use. This can be completed through Internet Banking or our App.

  • Can I still use my current payment methods?

Yes, you can continue to use your current transfer and BPAY payment methods. The New Payments Platform is an optional payment method that will be available in addition to the current payment options.

  • Who is behind the New Payments Platform?

The New Payments Platform is an industry wide initiative, collaboratively developed and funded by thirteen participating financial institutions. These thirteen financial institutions, including our payments provider Indue, have come together to form the New Payments Platform Australia Limited (NPPA) to oversee the build, operation and management of the New Payments Platform.
