Bernie Llyod - September 2016
From global to local
Victoria Teachers Mutual Bank was represented at the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) conference in Belfast, Northern Ireland, this year by three Directors and two Executive Managers. Over 1700 delegates from 53 countries were in attendance and it was a wonderful reminder to us of our heritage and place in this worldwide movement which aims to strengthen communities and societies through provision of sound financial services and products. The opening ceremony with its flag bearer parade was especially uplifting. There was a prevailing spirit of unity and mutual support.
There are 55,000 Credit Unions and Mutuals across the globe and the diversity of these member-based organisations is underpinned by agreed values and beliefs based on social responsibility. It was a strong reminder of the power of cooperative teams which enable their communities to grow and flourish.
Victoria Teachers Mutual Bank is immensely proud of its contribution to education in Victoria, in remote parts of Australia and in countries as far-flung as Myanmar. Our Directors have represented you in over 20 schools across the state in the past few months distributing over $30,000 in awards to schools who were successful in the 2016 Teaching Initiatives Program. These visits are always positive with the staff very pleased to be recognised for their innovative approaches to teaching and learning, and students proud to be part of winning teams.
From the international stage to a lively assembly in a flourishing school, Victoria Teachers Mutual Bank continues to invest in you our Members, and our children who are, of course, our future.
