Bernie Lloyd - May 2016
Board Appointed Director
I am very pleased to announce that Peter Wilson has been appointed to our Board of Directors and welcome him into our team. With Jon Hutchins leaving the Board to take up another role last year we have been operating as a Board of six Directors and spent a lot of time considering our options for the preferred profile of a new Director.
We constantly review and update the matrix of skills and competencies that has been established so that our Board represents the diversity and expertise we need to ensure our Mutual Bank continues to operate at high levels of success. Once the profile was agreed, the Board sought the services of an Executive Search firm to bring to its attention candidates who matched that profile. When a shortlist had been achieved, our Nominations Committee met with each candidate in interview to ensure that apart from the skills and experience sought, there was a cultural fit with our values and objectives and that each met our Responsible Officer eligibility criteria.
Looking back through written history of our Mutual Bank our early Directors were mainly drawn from the education sector, teachers who worked long and hard in their day roles as well as their Directorships. The mix of skills today requires us to respect our past and our continued education focus but we recognise we also require skills and experience in other disciplines, due to the increasingly complex nature of banking operations and the regulatory regime in which we operate. We believe our Members must continue to be served by people with expertise, integrity and talent, and who are committed to the principles of mutuality.
We were very pleased with the quality of those who we interviewed and it was difficult to make a choice. In appointing Peter our Board is complemented with his experience with other Boards and in management roles. You will meet Peter in an upcoming profile in our newsletter but apart from his considerable experience on Boards he brings a strong understanding of and belief in, member based organisations and a real commitment to the education sector at school and tertiary levels.
